The Supreme Court is an institution of white supremacy.
The NFL is an institution of white supremacy.
The NRA is an institution of white supremacy.
The Grammys are an institution of white supremacy.
Facebook is an institution of white supremacy.
The United States Congress is an institution of white supremacy.
The Republican Party is an institution of white supremacy.
The Democratic Party is an institution of white supremacy.
Pay attention to the dissonance. The space between what an organization claims to be and what their actions reveal — when you notice that it doesn’t make any kind of sense, be clear on what you’re seeing: The systems, structures, and institutions of white supremacy doing as they were built to do. Defending the fundamental wound upon which this country was founded.
This wound is what allows a body created to defend the Constitution to look the other way when the truths held within are being trampled. This wound is what permitted the white men who wrote the Constitution, to claim with bravado and certainty that “all men are created equal” when their actions betrayed that assertion.
Every time the hypocrisy is made evident. Every time we are left grappling for explanations we suspect don’t exist, we are being given a chance to see. That chance then affords us the choice to heal. To be with the lie, as we demand the truth.
We can’t control what they do. But be absolutely clear we maintain power over how we react. How we respond. What we do next. But first we need to see. If we are going to build something else, something that transcends these wounds, then we must have absolute, and collective, clarity on what is here. #NoBanEver
